What to expect from the Therapy Process.

Therapy can look very different for each person or family.

I will often attempt to address your needs in a few steps.

Step 1 - Assessment

In order to help me to better understand you and your unique situation and history, during our first few meetings I will ask lots of questions. We will identify targeted challenges or behaviors that may be causing you or your family stress.

These first few meetings are also a great time for us to figure out if my style as a therapist is a good fit for you!

Step 2 - Planning and Treatment

Using the information in step 1, we develop an individualized treatment plan that takes into account your strengths, unique situation, and the factors that motivate you to change. We will use this as a road-map in our work together. We might work on ways to reduce anxiety, stress or depression, or rehearse ways to use healthy coping skills where you are feeling stressed the most. Parents, we can also work together to help set boundaries or to better communicate with your teens and partner in the home.

Step 3 - Teaching and Transition

Once you or your family have reached the set goals, and the identified target challenges or behaviors have decreased, we can consider our work together complete! For parents, we will work with you on ensuring that the behavioral interventions we may have learned together have been transitioned to you.
